McLeod County VINE Coverage
Minnesota VINE through VINELink is a free, anonymous custody-status and notification service for participating county jails and detention facilities. The McLeod County VINE page promotes the service and supplies official leaflets. Minnesota materials say county systems normally send updates every 15 or 30 minutes. That makes the result useful for a recent custody change, though no automated feed is instantaneous.
The coverage boundary is strict. VINE applies to McLeod County Jail and other participating county facilities. It does not cover Minnesota Department of Corrections prisons, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, ICE, or a historical U.S. Marshals custody record. A McLeod booking that transfers to another system must be followed through the receiving authority. Using VINE for the wrong custodian can produce a missing result that says nothing about release.
Search a McLeod County Inmate

McLeod VINE Release Fields
VINE results are operational custody records. The exact fields can vary, but Minnesota materials identify several core items. Read them together. A scheduled-release item is prospective, while a status and event describe what the county feed reported. Neither replaces the sheriff's actual release or transfer record when a precise historical answer is needed.

“Custody changed” is not specific enough. A transfer means one jail's custody ended while another authority received the person. Escape and death are also separate events. Even a release event should be confirmed with the jail if the question concerns community exit, exact door time, legal basis, or a hold that may have moved the person elsewhere.
Interpret McLeod VINE Custody Events
A release alert should be read as a report from the participating county system, not as a full account of every legal obligation. It supports that the reported jail custody event changed. It may not identify every separate warrant, supervision term, or later custodian. When the notice is important, save the exact wording instead of reducing it to “out.” That small step preserves the distinction that McLeod's release and transfer records are designed to show.

- The county feed reports an end to the listed custody event. Confirm community exit and exact time with McLeod County Jail when needed.
- Transfer
- Custody moved to another authority. The person did not necessarily enter the community.
- Scheduled release
- A prospective date shown when available. It can change and is not an actual exit record.

Follow a transfer through the named recipient. Minnesota DOC commitments use the DOC Public Viewer for public status and Haven for notifications. Federal prison custody uses the BOP Locator, while immigration and temporary federal custody have their own routes. VINE cannot resolve a system it does not cover.
Also separate a VINE event from a court event. A judge's order or bail decision supplies legal authority, while the jail performs and records the physical release. The times can differ. Preserving the VINE observation, court entry, and sheriff timestamp produces a much stronger account than any one source alone.
Register McLeod County VINE Alerts
Registration begins from the correctly matched person record. Notifications can use phone, email, text, and supported app or in-app channels. An account is optional, and registration does not require giving a personal name. The destination and PIN are the practical details to preserve.

- When an alert arrives, read or listen for the event type before deciding whether the person entered the community.
The current Minnesota rack card says automated calls continue for 24 hours until the PIN is entered. Older state material described 48 hours, so the current card controls. Entering the PIN confirms receipt. It does not validate the accuracy of an interpretation made from the alert.
Note: Keep the PIN with the chosen notification destination so an alert can be acknowledged, changed, or canceled without delay.
VINE or Haven in McLeod
Minnesota separates county custody notification from state-prison notification. The Minnesota VINE fact sheet says VINE connects only to county jails and detention facilities. McLeod's local VINE page broadly encourages use of the service, but it does not expand the statewide system into Minnesota DOC prisons.
For a person at McLeod County Jail, register through Minnesota VINE. For a person in a Minnesota DOC prison, use Minnesota Haven through DOC Victim Assistance. Haven notifications can include advance release notice, conditional or final release, agent assignment, and expiration-of-sentence release. The state DOC Public Viewer can also show public status while a person remains under DOC jurisdiction. “Under Supervision as of” a date can support that prison confinement ended by that status date, but it does not guarantee present physical location. Fully discharged people may no longer appear in the live viewer. Note: Register in the notification system used by the agency that actually holds the person.
McLeod VINE PIN and Languages
Minnesota VINE supports English, Spanish, Hmong, and Somali, with live operator or language-line assistance. The statewide VINE line is 1-877-664-8463 and operates around the clock. The separate 1-866-277-7477 number handles help, changes, and lost PIN issues. These lines serve different tasks, so keep both with the registration record.
The PIN protects control of a phone registration and acknowledges a call. Save it in a secure place. If calls continue, enter the PIN according to the prompt. If the destination changes, use the PIN or help line to update or cancel the registration. A notification account is optional, but losing both the destination details and PIN can complicate later changes.
Alerts should be treated as prompts to verify. Record the wording, event type, date, time, person identifiers, and facility. If a phone alert is unclear, search the live record and contact the holding agency. This preserves the difference between the service message and the final interpretation.
Confirm a McLeod VINE Release
Call McLeod County Jail at 320-864-5191 when the precise status matters. Ask whether the person left county custody for the community or transferred. Staff may limit what they disclose, so the written sheriff records request is the historical fallback. Under Minnesota §13.82, subdivision 2, public adult arrest data include release date, time, and legal basis, plus equivalent transfer fields and the recipient agency.
Compare the jail answer with the court case. A release order, bail event, dismissal, or sentence entry explains legal authority, but court records do not timestamp the jail door. The sheriff's actual release data supplies that event. For a transfer, the recipient agency becomes the next source. A Minnesota DOC commitment goes to the DOC Viewer and Haven. Federal BOP, ICE, and USMS custody each require their own systems.

Do not assume that no VINE result means no custody. The person may be outside participating county coverage, listed under another spelling, newly booked, transferred, or affected by feed timing.
